Did You Know: GA Youth in Foster Care

Did you know that in Georgia, 547 youth left foster care after the age of 18 last year?*

That there were 7,844 youth in Georgia foster care on June 30th, 2011.

That there were 2,229 Georgia youth ages 13-17 in foster care on August 1st, 2011.

 *The last state fiscal year ended June 30th, 2011 and the 2012 state fiscal year starts on July 1st, 2011

  1. 547 Youth, does it give information of whether they were united with family or a supportive adult... This is bad if not.
    Also, how many youth in care are 18 and over. Or are receiving ILP services.

  2. Thank you! We don't have a website for just the JUSTGeorgia Team but our facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/EmpowerMEnts-JUSTGeorgia-Initiative/125551730856978. There were 504 youth ages 18-21 in care as of 8/1/2011. This shows that about half of youth in foster care at age 18 that have not been legally adopted or legally reunited with their biological parents sign themselves back into care, and about half choose not to.
